Product data enrichment: going beyond name and price

A supplier price list is written for buyers, not for customers. It has what a purchasing manager needs: a code, a short name, a price and a quantity. A customer in your store needs much more to make a decision. Enrichment is the work of filling that gap.

What enrichment adds

Sources of richer data

  1. Other suppliers of the same product. One supplier sends a name and a price, another sends ten attributes and five photos. Linking them gives you the best of both.
  2. Manufacturers, for official specifications and images.
  3. Supplier websites, when the content exists online but not in the price list.
  4. AI generation, to write descriptions and SEO texts from the collected attributes.
  5. Your team, for the products that matter most commercially.

Prioritise

Enriching every product equally is expensive. Start with:

Protect the work

Enriched data has to survive the next supplier import. Keep content fields, such as your descriptions and attributes, separate from the fields that should follow the supplier, such as price and stock. Otherwise the next file overwrites what you added.

Enrichment with YfiFX

YfiFX links the same product across suppliers, so their data can complement each other in one catalog. It can search for missing photos and characteristics, collect content from supplier websites with its scraper, and generate product descriptions and SEO texts with ChatGPT. Product links are created once, so regular imports keep prices and stock current without discarding the enriched content, which is then exported to your store and feeds.

Set it up once. YfiFX does the rest
